Created For Connection

Community Groups and Connection Events

Here at First, we believe that to actually form our lives deeply in the way of Jesus, we have to do that in community.

  • Our community groups will be returning this fall! These are smaller groups that gather over tables through the year for community and connection. If you are not a part of a community group and would like to join one this fall, contact Josiah Huisman (josiah@frcz.org).
  • Throughout the year we intentionally host several shared meals, potlucks, and connection events. Information about events can be found in our weekly bulletin.

Serving Our Community

Community Volunteer Opportunities

Kids Hope: Are you interested in making a difference in the life of a student at Quincy Elementary School? Mentors spend one hour with one child, once a week. Contact Mary Kingshott or Norma Jongsma at kidshope@frcz.org for more information.

Hand2Hand: First Church partners with Hand2Hand to help Quincy Elementary School students and families experiencing food insecurity. Contact Jackie Reimink or the church office if you are interested in helping with this ministry.

Adopt-a-Park: First Church has 'adopted' Upper Macatawa Natural Area as a way to care for God's creation together. We participate in a work session every spring, summer, and fall. Our next work session is Tuesday, April 23 at 6:30 pm.

Feeding Our Neighbors: First Church is partnering with Second Reformed to bring hot meals to neighbors experiencing food insecurity, and we are also partnering with Harvest Stand Ministries to host a monthly food pantry in one of the local mobile home parks. Contact Bob King or call the church office (772-9129) if you would like to get involved.

Community Action House Food Club: A group of people from First Church volunteer at Food Club in Holland Heights on the second Saturday morning of every month. Contact Julie Chen (julie@frcz.org) for more information.

Care Team: Contact Pastor Michelle (michelle@frcz.org) if you are passionate about caring for people and would like to serve as a Care Shepherd or participate in our freezer meal ministry.

Children's Ministries and Youth Ministries: Do you care deeply about teaching our children and youth about God's love for them and nurturing their faith development? If you would like to learn more about opportunities to serve, contact Nicky McCleery (nicky@frcz.org) for Children's Ministries and Josiah Huisman (josiah@frcz.org) for youth ministries.

Hospitality Ministries: A warm smile and a hot cup of coffee are important ways that we welcome people to worship on Sunday mornings. If you are interested in joining the greeting team or coffee team, contact the church office (772-9129) for more information.

Technology: The tech team's hard work behind the scenes helps us engage in worship. If you are interested serving on the tech team, contact Mike Boss (mike@frcz.org).

Ministry Teams: First Church has several ministry teams that help the church live out our mission in specific areas. If you are passionate about hospitality, discipleship, global outreach & justice, or local outreach & justice, contact the church office to learn more about joining a ministry team.
